The Benefits of Going Ductless

What is Ductless Heating & Air Conditioning?

Ductless heating & air conditioning a versatile heating and cooling solution for homeowners that solve all sorts of issues. These systems are efficient, powerful, and whisper-quiet. Additionally, they don’t require ducts at all, making them ideal for use in homes that cannot accommodate ducts, or in areas where normal AC or heating systems aren’t prudent or viable.

Ductless systems can also be set up to work throughout your entire home—what is called a “multi-split system,” using a single outdoor compressor and multiple indoor units connected via refrigerant lines and electrical wiring. This makes going ductless easy, efficient, and a powerful way to maintain a comfortable Austin home. Our experts carry extensive experience in installing Mitsubishi brand ductless split systems, offering you a one-stop shop for all of your comfort needs.

Ductless AC vs Traditional AC. The Nitty Gritty

What is the difference between a traditional air conditioner and a ductless system? A ductless system uses INVERTER-driven compressor technology. Don’t let those big words put you off! It’s as simple as cruise control. Let us explain.

Consider your car’s acceleration pedal. For longer distances you may utilize cruise control for the car to automatically adjust your speed up and down to match the speed limit as your vehicle navigates hills or other road changes. This is similar to how ductless technology works. In some cases, you may only need to press the accelerator just 20% of the way down to match the perfect speed. Ductless ACs offer the ability to use only the amount of energy necessary to get the perfect level of comfort in your home.

A traditional HVAC system is 100% on, or 100% off. Consider if you were only allowed to press the accelerator once the car dropped well below the desired speed. Your foot leans on the pedal to accelerate past the desired speed, then you must remove your foot completely, allowing your car to slow down to the desired speed and well below it. Then you can press on the accelerator once again. Similarly, traditional air conditioners operate at full capacity for a short period of time, then turn completely off once the temperature in your home has surpassed the setpoint. Once the temperature drifts too far above setpoint, your AC turns on at 100% energy use once again. This on/off format is not only an energy hog, it also can create temperature swings where you feel too warm, then too cold in your home.

Ductless mini-splits are the most efficient HVAC systems on the market and they offer great versatility. Adding ductwork to a traditional HVAC system is not only costly, but it would likely require an upgrade to a larger system to meet the demand for increased airflow.
